Every year I make a list of goals on Tumblr, this year being my third. I like looking back and seeing…
A. how irrelevant some past resolutions are to my present life and how different of a place I’m in now, B. how I’ve really struck down some goals with shining glory and how I probably wouldn’t have realized I accomplished anything this year if I didn’t have something to remind me where I started from, C. how MISERABLY I’ve failed at other goals, but that I realize it was because some were silly or unrealistic, or how I’ve now got the insight to accomplish them the right way now that I’ve done it the ass backwards way, and D. how I’m progressing with my current year’s goals, or what I can do to get things rolling by taking a refresher glance at the list every now and then.
My list this year is different than previous years in that there are no major life-altering goals on it, which I think is a sign that I’ve reached my goals of gaining confidence in myself and in my relationships to others (self-improvement, building trust, and eliminating unnecessary judgement of others were focus points of past years.) It also shows I’ve gotten to a comfortable place in my life where I can focus on things that I’ve always been in too crazy of place to even address. In 2012, I plan on NOT having many plans, but just indulging in simple creative exercises, honing skills, and gaining knowledge in areas that have always interested me. I’m feeling very calm and optimistic about 2012. Even if I don’t accomplish much on this list, I feel like that’d be okay since I feel at peace with my life. I’m just really savoring the moment and I think living simply as I am now is the best thing I can do for myself and for those around me.
